Connect Via SDI

πŸ”Œ SDI Guide← Back to Quick Start

This guide covers setting up the Move 4K with 3G-SDI video output. Use this for long cable runs (up to 100m) in professional or broadcast environments.

πŸ“‹What you need
  • SDI cable (75-ohm BNC)
  • 12V DC power supply (included) or PoE+ switch/injector
  • A video switcher, capture card, or monitor with SDI input
  • Optional: Ethernet cable for network control

Step 1: Connect the SDI Cable

  1. Connect a 75-ohm SDI cable (BNC) from the camera's SDI output to your video switcher, capture card, or monitor's SDI input.
πŸ“‹Use proper SDI cables

Standard composite or component BNC cables will not carry an SDI signal reliably. Use 75-ohm SDI-rated cable.

Step 2: Power the Camera

Choose one of the following power methods:

Option A: 12V DC Power Supply

  1. Connect the included 12V DC power supply to the camera's DC input.
  2. Plug the power supply into a standard wall outlet.

Option B: Power over Ethernet (PoE+)

  1. Connect an Ethernet cable from a PoE+ (802.3at) switch or PoE+ injector to the camera's LAN port.
  2. The camera will power on automatically.
⚠️PoE+ required

Ensure your switch or injector supports PoE+ (802.3at), not just PoE (802.3af).

Step 3: Wait for the Camera to Boot

Once powered, the camera performs a startup sequence:

1️⃣
Self-calibration β€” The camera moves through its full range of motion. This is normal.
2️⃣
Home position β€” The camera returns to Preset 0 (Home).
3️⃣
Ready β€” The front LED turns solid green. You should see video on your SDI display.

Step 4: Control the Camera

With SDI, the camera is likely distant from your control area. Use one of these control methods:

If you connected an Ethernet cable to the camera's LAN port:

  1. Open a browser and go to http://ptzoptics.local/
  2. Log in with username admin and set a password.
  3. Use the Horizon web interface for full PTZ control, image settings, and preset management.

Option B: RS232 Control

Connect an RS232 cable from your controller or joystick (such as the PTZOptics SuperJoy) to the camera's RS232 Input port.

⚠️Pinout compatibility

RS232 pinouts vary between manufacturers. If pinouts differ, you may need a null modem adapter or custom cable.

Option C: IR Remote

The included IR remote works for basic control, but is not recommended for distant cameras since it requires line-of-sight.

Step 5: Save Your First Preset

Using the Web Interface

  1. Move the camera to your desired position.
  2. Click Set in the Preset Control section.
  3. Enter a preset number and press Enter.

Using a PTZ Joystick (SuperJoy)

  1. Move the camera to your desired position.
  2. Press the Preset button on the joystick.
  3. Enter the preset number and confirm.
ℹ️What presets save

A preset saves both the camera position and all image settings. Calling a preset restores both.
